HOUSING

Here in this secluded stretch of 4-hectare land that lies languidly beyond the lower back of Matiwasi Falls is where the SLEMCoop had found the perfect location for a housing program that would give shelter to over one hundred coop members. One can get here by foot in five minutes, three by vehicle, or in a gallop through the 375-meter road, starting from the highway finishing at the subdivision's gate.

Coop Village Ibarra was developed in October 2000 with a budget of over P10M. It took two years for the workers to cover every detail of the development plan -starting from clearing the site down to the more laborious taks of implementing the layout of lot partitions, constructing a network of access roads that reach the village's every corner, installing the electrical, drainage, and water systems, and fencing the perimeters. The construction also included the building of a single-story edifice around which a park of trees and flowers surrounds.

The lot partitions totaled to over 248 lots, each with an average size of 100 sq. meters. Based initially on their locations and their proximity to the village's main access road, the lot prices were given to coopmembers wihout any interest for five years, which ranged from P740-P1500 per sq. meter. In 2004, those who have fully paid their lots began building their houses already, leaving those who have not yet finished paying with one more year to take advantage of the zero interest period.

Last October 2005, SlemCoop imposed new guidelines, which include the charging of interest and service fees to lot-takers with the remaining balances, otherwise they could give up their lot reservations to other coop members in the waiting list.

There are already many houses sheltering different families in the subdivision. With more and more people having finished paying their lots and ready to start building their houses, it won't be long before Coop Village Ibarra teems with everything that comes with people and children.
